Blakehurst House Renovation
The Location
This house renovation is located on the shores of the Georges River in Sydney’s South and enjoys expansive 180-degree water views.
The Client
A lovely Mamma and daughter team and toy poodle, Maple.
The Brief
Transform this tired, cold and gloomy house into a home that is light-filled and detailed, but not fussy. Reflecting the clients’ love of travel and being able to accommodate family and friends.
The House Renovation – Interior
It is now light, bright, and welcoming – come in and take a look! Be sure to check out the before & afters.
The kitchen has been well considered, the original walk-in pantry has been removed and is now an extension of the kitchen, fitted out with a functional appliance cabinet and ample pantry storage opposite. Subtle detail like V-groove, a two-toned colour palette, marble mosaic splashback and shark nose profile on the stone benchtops provides lots of visual interest whilst having a calming effect.
The living areas are predominately a mix of neutrals – ebony, brown, tan, olive, and green-toned beige. With Mother Nature’s ever-changing palette over the vast river views the intent was to keep the interior quiet, earthy and grounded. The cold floor tiles were replaced with timber for warmth underfoot and to achieve a relaxed, coastal vibe. V- groove features throughout as well as grass cloth wallcoverings to provide texture, visual interest and create intimacy.
This stunning art is charred bark that has been peeled of fire-ravaged trees from the South Coast 2019/2020 bushfires.
The existing joinery in the dining and living areas was given new life, refinished with laminate, brass handles and mesh inserts. A window was filled in to give the existing ethanol fireplace an overhead hood and some presence and a bold pattern elevates the space.
Custom stone sofa tables are great for displaying favourite items and dress up the back of the sofa.
This downstairs living area is casual and chic, opening onto a large terrace with an inbuilt spa this is a well-used space.
This spicy palette was informed by the homeowners’ artwork.
Custom swivel chairs for lounging complete the dressing room and home office. Linen sheers filter the light.
Opting for wardrobe doors in the dressing area keeps everything neat and tidy whilst also protecting clothing from dust. The home office beyond provides plenty of storage and is a space for two. And this teen bedroom will carry her through to her 20’s and beyond with a simple change of the wallpaper.
This stunning round bath is open to the master suite and allows the homeowner to relax whilst enjoying the views.
The Look
Oozing style and comfort this contemporary house renovation is visually engaging. Linen, boucle, velvet, and leather in bold colourways and patterns, along with grass cloth and sisal set the relaxed vibe whilst the pops of brass throughout the main living areas add a sophisticated touch.
