Hallway with Style

Hallway With Style

By Richelle Langdon on 07/08/2021

All too often overlooked, the design of the entrance hallway provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase your personal interior style.  A simple console table, mirror or artwork, floral arrangement or table lamp are the bones. Then add in your favourite books in a stack, top it with some coral, or a special piece from travels and hey presto…. you’ve changed up the vibe right there.

Now, observe how you move through this transitional interior space. Before you most likely whizzed right on through to the kitchen. So now slow up a little and take the time to pop down the mail and keys,  pause briefly and smile as you admire your floral design handiwork.  Visitors will linger and comment as they enter. People are naturally inquisitive and these little snippets will reveal yourself and allow your visitors to learn more about you and your interior style.

Styling your hallway is a game changer and once you start having a play, you’ll find it’s addictive. You can then move onto having fun with wallpaper or painting it a moody colour. You could also try adding in a hall runner, or changing out the down-lights for pendants.

Your hallway is a transitional space, it’s small and minimal time is spent there. It’s a safe and more economical area to breakout a little. Remember nothing comes together in the first instance. It’s a work in progress and the more you practice the better trained your eye will become. You will change around pieces and you’ll start to layer more and edit

As an interior designer, I often get asked how much I should place in a hallway? I hope that these tips will give you some ideas!  You’ll start to have fun, you just have to start!
